Many kids and teens being held in juvenile detention centers are being kept past their release date by upwards of 20 days. Colorado is seeing a shortage on foster homes and treatment beds, causing around ⅓ of the children to stay within the prison. A law passed in 2021 set up a review team to better track where to place these kids, but the state doesn’t have many options. New reviews are setting goals to send the kids to the least-restrictive, safe environment . Im Thomas Clark
