The Rockies were in Houston for a day game against the Astros Wednesday. After Houston opened up a 5-nothing lead, the Rocks seemed to try to make it interesting. Down 5-2 in the 6th, CJ Cron (KROHN) smashed a homer into the left field seats. Houston native Randall Grichuk (GRITCH-uhk) hit another to the same spot in the 7th, and got a standing ovation from his mom, dad, and sister who were sitting right there. But none of it was enough for Colorado… the Astros win, 6 to 4.
Team USA is taking on the world in the women’s Americup basketball tournament being played in Mexico City, and the squad’s led by Coloradoan Laura Betts. She’s said by many experts to be one of the state’s best home-grown hoops talents ever. She was Gatorade Player of the Year in high school, and the nation’s top recruit coming out of high school, at 6 feet 7. Wednesday, she led all scorers with 17 points and 14 rebounds, as the Americans blasted Cuba, 106 to 44.
