Tuesday’s elections brought a huge defeat to the state Capitol… Governor Polis’ tax plan, Proposition HH, got rejected in a big way…
(Prop HH Fails :40)
As of 10 last night, the measure that would’ve reduced TABOR tax refunds to offset some hikes in property taxes was losing big, by more than 20 points… 61 percent opposed to Prop HH, only 39 percent in favor. The defeat was seen by analysts as a major repudiation of the Governor’s tax plan, in a state where his fellow Democrats easily won statewide offices by double-digit margins, just last year. Polis hasn’t said what he’d do if HH was defeated, not announcing any backup plan to deal with a coming property tax spike. Of course, political observers note there can be property tax relief, if only legislators would choose to provide it without “voter approval.” And it turned out several parts of HH didn’t need such approval, either, but there was no word on potential backup plans.
TAG– The Governor spent last night at the Western Governors’ Association meeting in Wyoming, and didn’t give any Colorado reporters interviews about the election. Senate President Steve Fenberg also didn’t show up anywhere, but issued a statement saying “far-right misinformation” sank Prop HH.
