Speaking on MSNBC about the contentious battles among Republicans that resulted in ultra-conservative Mike Johnson becoming Speaker of the House, Buck announced he’s not seeking re-election, around 11 am Wednesday. Veteran anchor and reporter Andrea Mitchell seemed shocked by his declaration. He says he made the decision in part because his party continues to lie to the public about the insurrection at the White House, and claims that the 2020 election was somehow “stolen”…

Buck hasn’t necessarily been consistent on those issues, however. He voted for new Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, who’s an election denier, after not voting for 2 other Speaker candidates who also were. Colorado conservatives including the state Republican Party have recently turned on Buck, claiming he’s not conservative enough for them, and not supportive enough of Donald Trump. His district is vast, and heavily Republican. It’s essentially the eastern two-thirds of the state.
