Fall Fires

Dry conditions prevailed statewide over the weekend, and kept firefighters busy, especially on the western slope…

A fire burning east of Parachute in Garfield County destroyed one home.  By late last night, it had burned across about a hundred acres south of I-70, with no containment reported.  First responders evacuated some homes east of Parachute, but let those residents go back home last evening.  Containment is up to 30% on the “Iron Fire,” burning northwest of Craig, in Moffat County.  That one’s consumed more than 7300 acres, about 11 square miles, since Friday.  The Sheriff’s office there says it’s threatening 6 buildings, but there’d been no evacuations as of late last night.
