It looked for much of early Sunday afternoon like the Broncos would be starting their NFL season with a 4th consecutive loss, to the also-winless Bears in Chicago. But after trailing by 3 touchdowns, 28 to 7, much of the day and not giving themselves chances to win in their previous 3 games with terrible second halves, Denver came to life and made things very different…
(Broncos 1st Win wrap :53)
Quarterback Russell Wilson delivered 2 quick second-half touchdown drives, then linebacker Nick Bonitto (boh-NEE-toh) stormed into the Bears backfield and forced a fumble by quarterback Justin Fields. That was picked up and run back for another Denver TD by Jonathan Cooper, tying the game at 28. Then late in the contest, Chicago elected to bypass a winning field goal try and go for it on 4th down, but the Broncos defense held. Denver used Will Lutz to kick a 51-yard field goal, and it was good, capping 24 unanswered points by the Broncos and sealing their first victory of the season, 31 to 28. Offensive lineman Garrett Bolles (bowls) was much happier afterward than in the first 3 weeks of the season…
