After years of temporary closures on a popular 14er route, a non-profit has come up with a new solution to open the “Decalibron (dih-KAL-ih-brahn) Loop” to more people again…
(More Access to Trails vxr :32)
That loop hits 4 peaks in a single trek– Mounts Democrat, Cameron, Lincoln, and Mount Bross. The Conservation Fund says it’s now bought about 300 acres on Mount Democrat. The previous owner, a John Reiber, would often close the trail, claiming he was concerned about liability if someone were to get injured there. He reopened that land to the public this year, but required hikers to sign a waiver. Now, the Conservation Fund says it plans to sell that property back to the US Forest Service by the end of this year, and along with better public access to that trail, the fund sees better environmental protection opportunities, too.
