It felt like fall to Coloradoans in some locations Monday, as temperatures dropped and there was visual evidence of the changing seasons. The calendar was also a reminder of a rough time in the state…
(Wintry Weather Coming :45)
Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park closed for a couple hours Monday morning due to snow, ice, and poor visibility. Long’s Peak was also shrouded in clouds for much of the day. While some think that was a bit early for snow, meteorologists say for that location, the wintry look actually showed up about 3 weeks late, since the season’s first snow on Trail Ridge usually arrives around mid-August or so. They say there’s also another chance for a shot of mountain snow at the highest elevations, later this week. On the front range and in much of the state, temperatures only warmed into the upper 60’s and lower 70’s Monday. The 11th also marked 10 years since Colorado’s widespread, devastating heavy rains and flooding of 2013. Some places saw a year’s worth of rain in only a few days that September. The National Guard had to rescue Coloradoans in many places from the highest water the state had seen in 75 years.
