This happened a few weeks ago near Telluride (TEHL-you-ride), and now it’s happened again. Interesting sight for some hikers trying to reach the summit of a 14’er in Park County…
(Truck Stuck Atop Mt Lincoln :42)
They found a truck near that summit over the weekend. Apparently a driver tried to get there by driving up the hiking trail, where there aren’t supposed to be any vehicles, and got it stuck approaching the top of Mount Lincoln. The Colorado 4 by 4 Rescue and Recovery group says the driver got his GMC pickup stuck on the 27th of August, not realizing the narrow trail wasn’t a road. His truck quit climbing in a field of loose rocks known as “scree,” and he had to hike down to the town of Alma to call for assistance. A couple days later, 8 volunteers from the recovery group hiked up to see how they could help, and try to tow it down. They had to abandon their effort with the pickup too badly stuck. Then after 6 days on the mountain, the vehicle’s owner contacted a commercial firm to go recover it, and they did. No word on how much it cost him, but it might’ve been a pretty healthy down payment on another car.
