More than a hundred Summit County homeowners are suing the county, trying to overturn local restrictions on short-term rentals…
(Short-Term Summit Rentals :31)
The county has recently created new limits on where and how often people can rent out their properties on sites like Airbnb or VRBO. The county’s also now offering cash to property owners who take their homes’ spare rooms or extra units off that short-term vacation market, and instead lease them long-term to people intending to be local residents, who work in Summit, and want to live there too. The county responds that the suit is wrongfully blaming housing issues on short-term rentals, and adds that some homeowners will now have to sell their properties, since they won’t have the extra income from vacationers.
