Aurora City Council is moving forward with a proposal that would ban pet stores from selling dogs and cats…
(Aurora Pet Sale Ban :31)
The city hopes that ban will increase pet adoptions, from rescues and shelters. Council members voted unanimously to move the proposal forward, during a Tuesday “study session.” If the ban becomes law, it wouldn’t affect current pet stores. The city says none of those stores have been selling cats or dogs since March of 2020, but one was closed at that time for unpaid taxes, and was cited for mistreating its animals. The ban would exclude private breeders and partnerships between the pet stores and animal shelters. Other communities including Breckenridge, Superior, and Vail have similar bans in place.
