A new audit shows that of the 192 sports programs Colorado’s 11 public universities and colleges run, only 2 make money…

Those 2 are the football and men’s basketball operations at CU-Boulder.  Combined, they actually bring in tens of millions of dollars, while most others lose money.  In the 2021 to 22 school year, for example, the highly-successful School of Mines football program that won a lot of games and played for a national championship, earned nearly 300 thousand dollars.  But, it spent around 2 ½ million.  Assistant Mines Athletic Director Tim Flynn…

So where do all those schools get their money?  Most programs rely on athletic donors contributing to their schools.  Those gifts are how Mines’ new 26-million-dollar football stadium got built.
