More Coloradoans are getting sick with the West Nile virus…
(CO West Nile Cases :35)
Tuesday, Jefferson County reported its first case of the year, making that the 13th confirmed case across 9 counties so far. Weld and Larimer Counties have each had 3 cases, and another 6 counties- Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Delta, El Paso, and LaPlata, have one each. One person died of West Nile in Weld County last week. All this summer’s rain has created great breeding conditions for the Culex (KYOO-lex) mosquitoes that pass the virus to people. You can, of course, better protect yourself with insect repellant sprays, and experts say despite the heat, the wearing of long sleeves and pants whenever possible is good protection as well. And try not to be outside right around sunrise and sunset.
