The victim survived the impact, but with some serious injuries. The trial of Fort Lupton Officer Jordan Steinke (STINE-key), who put her there, will move into its 3rd day tomorrow. Steinke testified in her own defense Tuesday about putting Yareni Rios in the back of that car, when it was parked on railroad tracks near Platteville. Steinke says she was so focused on the possibility Rios might have a gun, she didn’t realize the tracks were there…

The prosecution had argued Monday that Steinke had stepped onto the tracks at least 5 times that night, before the train slammed into the car Rios was in. The officer’s being tried for the felony charge, “reckless attempted manslaughter.” The case continues Thursday. Another officer, who originally parked that vehicle on those tracks, is also facing criminal charges.
