It started south of I-70, near the Colorado River. Firefighters on the ground say they got plenty of help from aircraft in the first hours of that fire. Late Thursday, they were still trying to determine how much vegetation burned and what the fire’s containment level is. Firefighters say that blaze is one of several new fires that suddenly cropped up in Mesa County alone. The bunch of outbreaks is being chalked up to lightning from dry thunderstorms Wednesday.
