Colorado’s expecting today to be its hottest day of the year, so far…

The Denver area is expected to roast today, with temperatures nearing triple digits. That’s the kind of heat that can be more than just unpleasant, but dangerous, too. Forecasters expect most people not to be prepared for super-high temps this year, because there was such an extended cool, rainy season in May and June. Heat advisories are in effect until 8 tonight for many areas, including much of the far western slope from Grand Junction south through Montrose and Durango… the south-central part of the state including Colorado Springs, Pueblo, Walsenburg, Alamosa, and Trinidad… and again the entire Denver metro region and areas north to the Wyoming border, plus Fort Collins, Boulder, and Greeley. Meteorologists look for temps in all those places to rise to near or above 100 degrees today, with that south-central area possibly climbing to near 105.

Heat advisories are in place today for a lot of communities statewide, including the Denver metro area, Colorado Springs, Grand Junction, and more. Forecasters say 3 large areas are of primary concern, under those advisories until around 8 tonight. They include the Denver area and I-25 corridor north to Wyoming… the far western slope including Grand Junction, Durango, and Montrose, and the south central region, containing Alamosa, Walsenburg, Pueblo, and Colorado Springs. Some of the early forecast highs for the day include “only” 93 for Denver, but a thermometer-popping 107 at Grand Junction, 101 in Cortez, 100 at Greeley, 103 in Pueblo, and even in the far southeast, 101 predicted for Lamar, 100 in Springfield. Please protect yourselves, and of course don’t leave a pet in a hot car today or any day. Forecasters say tomorrow may be hot again, but a bit of cooling may be possible by Wednesday & Thursday.
