Firefighters in Grand County say they’ll need the help of the weather to put out the Devil’s Thumb wildfire…
(Devil’s Thumb Fire To Keep Burning :28)
That fire started just north of Winter Park, on the 4th of July. It’s still smoldering now, almost 2 weeks later. That blaze burned through a lot of dead trees, some of which had been stacked up as high as 20 feet. Firefighters decided this past weekend it’s just too difficult for them to completely put the fire out, so they’re now going to just let it continue to burn, and hope that the yearly monsoon rainstorms that normally hit Colorado will finish the job for them. Residents of Grand and Boulder Counties are now expected to see smoke for months, as the fire continues to smolder.
