It happened about 20 miles northeast of Durango, and just south of the town of Mineral. The victim tells authorities he could hear his sheep being attacked early Wednesday morning, so he shot the bear with a rifle. Then, the bear turned and attacked him. The man has bite wounds on his hands, head, arms and hips, and scratches on his back. He was able to crawl back to his tent and call for help. State wildlife officials tracked down the bear and killed it. That’s the first bear attack reported in Colorado this summer.
