Leaders there are trying to make sure that what little water they have, stays in the valley. They recently fought a proposal to pump water from there to Douglas County, and won that fight. Now, 6 counties are working together on a formal proposal to limit such water exports. Alamosa, Saguache, Costilla, Conejo, Mineral, and Rio Grande Counties will work together, creating a board to review water proposals. They put together a first draft of the plan last month, got some legal advice, and they expect to share a new version next week.
