Race Admission

There are a lot of big ripples from Thursday’s Supreme Court decision that ended more than 4 decades of affirmative action in the college admissions process.  The 6-3 ruling means schools can no longer consider race at all in granting admission…

The previous rule had benefited black, Latino, and other students.  The majority conservative justices claim in their ruling, colleges used race in a “negative” way.  President Biden said he believes diversity benefits those schools, and the students.  Colorado universities including Metro State-Denver are concerned.  MSU’s Vice-President of Diversity and Inclusion, Dr. Michael Benitez, says the change will affect more than just the students of color on campus…

In states that had previously banned affirmative action, there’s already less diversity. 

TAG– At the University of Michigan, black students had made up 7% of the student body in 2006, prior to that state’s ban.  That number was down to 4% in 2021.
