It was a difficult day and evening Wednesday to travel much of Colorado on the ground, as our second winter storm of the season passed through…

State troopers dealt with multiple crashes along I-70, well into last night, with snow and rainshowers disrupting a lot of drivers’ plans, as they got into accidents. It was a fairly mild storm, according to forecasters, yet there were storm warnings and travel advisories up until midnight. With the storminess having moved out in the wee hours of this morning, your Thursday is probably sunny and nice in many areas, yet chilly, some with a new white blanket on the ground. Many roads and side streets statewide are still icy across wide areas, so be sure to be cautious– foothills and mountain communities are most likely facing winter driving conditions for at least a few hours today.

Significant snowfall hit much of Colorado in Wednesday’s storm. Reported amounts included 8.9 inches in Genessee, 6 at Winter Park, Keystone got 5, 4½ were reported in Idaho Springs, and 7 at Nederland (NEHD-ur-land). Forecasters say skies should be mostly sunny today, with cooler but comfortable temperatures in the 50’s in many places. The day will start with winter driving conditions along I-70, but that should lighten up as the day goes on. Look for cooler high temps of around 39 degrees today in Steamboat Springs and Vail, about 31 in Winter Park, and 35 at Leadville… 46 in Colorado Springs, 53 at Grand Junction and Cortez, 55 for Burlington, and 51 in Denver.
