It’s the biggest upset in college basketball so far this season ! And the season’s only one game old! The CU Buffs women’s hoops squad went to Vegas for an early tournament last night, and shocked the Number 1 LSU women, winning pretty handily, by 14 points, 92 to 78. Freda Forman sank 7 three-pointers for the Buffs and led them with 27 points. Colorado’s Jaylyn Sherrod (shuh-ROD) scored 19…
It’s CU’s first Top Ten win, since the last time the Buffaloes knocked off the nation’s Number 1, when Stanford held that position in January of ’21. That was the COVID season, so no fans got to see it in person. Colorado fans on campus got to watch this win on the big screens in the campus Events Center…
Then the Colorado men opened the season with a victory of their own… belting Towson State from Maryland, 75 to 57. KJ Simpson scored 22 for the Buffs.
The CSU women also won last night in Fort Collins, beating Lemoyne 69 to 49.
In the NBA, the Nuggets were down 20 points without Jamal Murray last night. He’s expected to be out a while with a hamstring injury. But that was no problem, because the squad mounted a big comeback. Rookie Julian Strawther picked up some of the slack, scoring 21. Also Nikola Jokic (YOH-kitch) dunked for the first time this season while scoring 35 and racking up a triple-double with 14 rebounds, and 12 assists. Denver beats the New Orleans Pelicans, 134 to 116.
