Colorado’s big cooldown heading into this weekend is said by forecasters to already be underway, and they’re advising folks not to be surprised by a few inches of snow that may be on the ground by Sunday morning…
(Winter Wx This Weekend :42)
Temperatures in a lot of the state have been pretty summer-like, in the 70’s and 80’s, most of the past month, but the meteorologists remind us a big change is coming. Colorado’s actually said to be a week or so behind its usual schedule, because the average date of the first snow, at least in the Denver area, is usually around October 18th. The earliest it’s arrived was September 3rd back in 1961, and the latest just a couple years ago, on December 10th in 2021. Low pressure that’s currently off the northwest coast is expected to bring the big change. Forecasters say they now anticipate sort of a “parade” of storms, with a cold front moving through the state today, another system coming Saturday, then even colder temps and significant snow on the front range Sunday. Some northern mountain areas might start to get a little snow today.
