Jefferson County deputies have arrested a man they say broke into a crypt at a cemetery, and stole parts of a late person’s body two weeks ago…
(Cemetery Break-In :32)
John Belnap is in jail today, accused of abuse of a corpse, burglary, and theft. Investigators say he smashed open a mausoleum, stealing remains from a 104-year-old coffin. But they don’t think Belnap had any connection to that particular mausoleum, or the person who’d been interred there. The county says it’s not the first time that crypt has had a break-in, either. Someone stole remains from it back in 2000, as well. Investigators got those body parts back, and restored the mausoleum. Deputies say they’ve found no evidence that those thefts 23 years apart are in any way related.
