Many mountain areas got their first significant snow of the season Thursday and last night…
Bad Roads
Driving became more of a challenge in several spots. The state patrol dealt with numerous crashes on I-70. Some places got nearly a foot of snow from that initial storm. A lot of it was driven by winds of 30 to 40 miles an hour. Travel is expected to remain difficult in spots today. Independence Pass on Colorado 82 between Aspen and Twin Lakes is expected to reopen after a cautionary closure, once CDOT has it cleared of snow and ice. The narrow former stagecoach trail will close for the whole winter sometime early next month. CDOT says, however, Colorado 5, Mount Evans Road, is already closed for the season, until late next May.
