(Wolf Reintroduction Delays :51)
Voters statewide approved a measure to reintroduce the species to the state back in 2020, with a deadline to start that process of no later than December 31st, the end of this year. Although it’s taken these years to come up with and approve a plan for wolf reintroduction, Colorado Parks & Wildlife has finally gotten that on paper. Now, it says the physical transfer of 30 to 50 wolves from other states will be needed, the next 3 to 5 years. The document said months ago, plans were underway for Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana to start donating populations of the animals. Written into the paper, however, is the fact that CPW’s now exploring potential agreements with Oregon and Washington. The formal requests have been made to those states, with the search for wolves from somewhere continuing. Wyoming’s Governor has openly said, however, he opposes Colorado’s reintroduction plan and refuses to help with it. CPW says despite only having requests out to those 4 other states, Colorado doesn’t plan to delay its reintroduction.
