The February incident seemed to start routinely, when 28-year-old Brent Thompson was pulled over by Larimer County Sheriff’s deputies on an I-25 ramp near Loveland, for an expired license plate. First, Thompson gave them a fake name. Then, he started to run away, and the deputy chased him. While the family wants that deputy to face charges, the local DA disagrees, saying despite poor judgment, no crime was committed, and his actions were proper. The Sheriff also noted Thompson’s body tested positive for high levels of fentanyl. The family says they’re considering a civil lawsuit.
