Pandemic-era protections that kept people on Medicaid and other plans ran out that month. New state numbers show that’s already having an impact. Federal rules from the start of the pandemic prevented many people being kicked off state-run healthcare programs. That went away in May. The state now says 42% of people whose healthcare coverage was up for renewal, had their policies expire. Some of them didn’t qualify because their income was too high. 30 thousand lost out because they didn’t finish the paperwork, much of which wasn’t required during the pandemic, something community groups had warned about.
