State legislators return to the Capitol today, trying to work out a new solution to stop skyrocketing property taxes…

Colorado voters soundly rejected the Democratic idea, Proposition HH, that was on this month’s ballot. Thursday, it was learned that party’s planning to re-package some parts of HH, and pass them during this weekend’s special session. Like the ballot proposition, the potential bill would change the way property taxes are calculated for next year. Fifty thousand dollars of your home’s value would be tax-free, and statewide assessment rates would also go down. That plan would also change TABOR refunds, to send everyone the same amount, re-distributing money from higher-income Coloradoans to those of lesser means. Democrats are in complete control of the legislature, so they can do all that, without a single Republican vote.
