Half of I-25 a few miles north of Pueblo was back open to traffic last night, 3 days after 30 train cars crashed down onto the highway, killing a truck driver…
(Train crash Site Reopening :34)
CDOT reopened the southbound lanes of the interstate Wednesday afternoon, and it expects the northbound side to reopen today. It’s been learned that the railroad had inspected those tracks just hours before the derailment and crash last Sunday. But federal investigators say one rail had been broken, and may have caused the whole incident. The Burlington Northern & Santa Fe railroad says its employees inspected the rails there multiple times in the past 3 months, using several different forms of testing. The railroad didn’t say what kind of test it did on Sunday, shortly before a coal train left the track and crushed trucker LaFollette Henderson. BNSF says it’s going to replace that bridge over the highway.
