Some fans and sports analysts are now expecting the 1 & 5 Broncos to trade away multiple players in favor of some new blood, as the NFL’s deadline for those moves approaches. Until now, Denver hadn’t lost 5 of its first 6 games of the season, since 1994. Some candidates for trades are believed to be receivers Jerry Jeudy and Courtland Sutton, defensive back Justin Simmons, linebacker Josey Jewell, even high-dollar, and some would say overpriced, quarterback Russell Wilson. One advantage to being so bad at this point in the season is that if it ended now, Denver would have the 3rd pick in next year’s college draft, and could pick a top-tier rookie quarterback.
And some of Colorado’s college football teams are the best in the nation. The Orediggers of the Golden-based School of Mines are this week’s Number 1 in NCAA Division II. The Mines football program is one of the oldest anywhere, too… fielding its first team in 1885, before there were cars, and before the Statue of Liberty arrived in this country from France.
The Avalanche are 2 & 0 on the new NHL season, and they’ll skate against the Kraken in Seattle tonight. The Avs’ home opener is set for Thursday at Ball Arena, against the Blackhawks.
