Investigators believe Thane Smika (SMYE-kuh) shot his roommate, Sid Wells, to death on August 1st, 1983. That case got a lot of attention because Wells had been dating actor Robert Redford’s daughter. Police did arrest Smika shortly after the killing, but the DA at the time decided not to file charges. They let Smika go, and he promptly disappeared. The FBI says they haven’t seen a trace of Thane Smika since 1986. A judge signed a new arrest warrant for him 11 years ago, after police thought they’d come up with some new evidence. There’s still a 10 thousand dollar reward hanging out there, for information that helps law enforcers find that alleged killer.
