Starting today, what had been a warning becomes a fine. CDOT says in the last month, it\u2019s issued more than 55 hundred warnings to drivers using the lanes when they were closed. The deal is, the lanes can only be open a certain number of days each year, according to the federal government. They\u2019re not \u201cactual\u201d extra lanes of the interstate– they\u2019re built into the shoulder. Drivers who use them when they\u2019re closed, or weave in and out, can now get fined.
