The city hopes that ban will increase pet adoptions, from rescues and shelters.\u00a0 Council members voted unanimously to move the proposal forward, during a Tuesday \u201cstudy session.\u201d\u00a0 If the ban becomes law, it wouldn\u2019t affect current pet stores.\u00a0 The city says none of those stores have been selling cats or dogs since March of 2020, but one was closed at that time for unpaid taxes, and was cited for mistreating its animals.\u00a0 The ban would exclude private breeders and partnerships between the pet stores and animal shelters.\u00a0 Other communities including Breckenridge, Superior, and Vail have similar bans in place.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
