Lawmakers were there debating alternative ways to stop soaring property taxes. Sunday was Day 3 of a special legislative session, called by Governor Polis. The main bill intending to limit property tax increases that are scheduled next year went to the House floor for a vote. Republicans introduced plenty of proposed amendments, but Democrats hold enough votes in each chamber to pass or kill whatever they want to. The Republicans are calling for more tax relief, but the Democratic majority doesn’t want to dip into the state’s reserve funds to pay for that. A special vote Saturday extended the special session, making it run through today.
